AkaMya Culture Group in collaboration with the Mono Arts Council will be continuing our bi-weekly Social Dance Classes. These classes are free, and you can register on the Mono Arts Council Website. www.monoarts.org

Pow Wow Night- Margaret L. Romero Cultural Studio, Big Pine, CA
​Pow Wow Night Classes will continue unless posted for event or postponement. Dance Nights take place every Tues. & Wed. at the Margaret L. Romero Cultural Studio in Big Pine, CA at 6pm. Classes are free and open to community. Join us and get some practice and movement in during the Winter Season. All skill levels and ages are encouraged to attend. Inyo Council of Arts will be helping to sponsor our Pow Wow Dance Nights.

We continue our ongoing Hoop Dance Class Training. Given the winter season, and time, Classes are subject to postponement or cancellation. Registration is recommended so that you will be updated on class status.

POYOHA Running Club- Margaret L. Romero Cultural Studio, Big Pine, CA
Honoring the running culture of our Native People of Turtle Island, we are proud to announce the POYOHA Running Club. This Club will be meeting weekly at the Studio and learn proper stretching and conditioning exercises. Throughout the yar, we will bring in guests to share their knowledge on running and also cultural values of running. Following opening, we will run together at our own respective paces on a chosen route.

Family Fun Pow Wow Night- Margaret L. Romero Cultural Studio, Big Pine, CA
Family members and volunteers of AkaMya will host an open night for families to come together and pow wow practice. This is an open studio night which allows community members to come and see what the group is about, and the wellness gym is also open with weights, and infrared sauna.

AkaMya Potluck Meeting- Margaret L. Romero Cultural Studio, Big Pine, CA
We will start hosting monthly potluck for participants of AkaMya and their families. This will be a time for sharing and visiting. We will also be able to plan and coordinate for upcoming events and fundraisers which will be ongoing through the year. AkaMya will post regularly, so that participants and their families can join us and bring any themed dishes or items.

NIEA- Alice Piper Educational Panel, Palm Springs, CA
Oct. 9-10, 2024
Director Sage Romero will be attending the annual National Indian Education Association to sit and share about the Alice Piper project and ongoing work on a panel with NDN.org Director Joseph Quintana, Former Bishop Chair Meryl Picard, and Big Pine School Teacher Tim Steele.
Lone Pine Film Festival, Lone Pine, CA
Oct. 12, 2024- 11am-4pm
AkaMya Culture will have an Artist Booth and presenting at the Lone Pine City Park Art Show, during the 2024 Lone Pine Film Festival. We will be posting the presentation time as soon as it is confirmed.

Mammoth Lakes Cerro Coso College Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration, Mammoth Lakes, CA
Oct. 14, 2024- 9am-4pm
AkaMya will be participating in the first Indigenous People Day event held at the Mammoth Lakes Cerro Coso Community college campus. This will be a day event, and we will update as more details are given.

2024 Bishop Craggin Classic, Bishop, CA
Oct. 18, 2024- 5:30 pm
AkaMya will be providing a cultural presentation to the visitors of this annual event in Bishop, CA. Our presenters will share story, dance, song and interaction with visiting participants of this international climbing event opening.

Antelope Valley Indian Museum Indian Days Celebration, Lancaster, CA
Oct. 19-20, 2024- All Day Event
AkaMya Culture Group Presenters will have a booth and share cultural presentations throughout the day. This will be a 2-day event and presentations will happen throughout the time there.
